Project Portfolio
The following is a list of projects I have personally designed and implemented. The projects that I designed but outsourced to subject matter experts for implementation are not listed below.
Network Revamp
I replaced outdated firewalls, switches, WAP's, Call Managers, and phones. Negotiated better contracts with ATT and Comcast for full fiber service at all locations. Implemented industry standard VPN technology for secure access with laptops and backup connectivity.
Network performance and reliability improved to 99% uptime.
Network and wireless security was able to pass penetration testing.
Phone services were greatly improved and up to date using SIP instead of T1's
Physical Server Virtualization and Colocation
I replaced an aging physical data center environment that was simply in a closet with a fully virtualized redundant Server and SAN environment in a colocated data center. Virtualized all physical servers to prevent downtime and speed them up.
All virtualized servers ran faster and were more responsive.
With multiple hosts I could provide 99% uptime even with maintenance.
Backups and Disaster Recovery
I replaced an aging tape system with a 3 tier backup system that allowed for multi-site replication and replication to the cloud. This was the corner stone of our Disaster Recovery (DR) plan that involved replication to a offsite location for DR if the data center was destroyed, and to the cloud in case of ransomware attack. I was told by the vendor that I had negotiated the lowest per GB price of any of their customers.
Improved backups allowed for faster recovery of data and easier validation of successful backups nightly.
Produced a DR system with out major additional investment.
Designed and Implemented VMWare Virtual desktops
I had a problem with a very data heavy application, traversing the WAN (6 locations) and an aging desktop infrastructure to replace. The best solution was to bring the desktops into the data center and avoid WAN acceleration at each location (very expensive).
Centralized VDI allowed attorneys to work from anywhere in the company at any workstation and remotely from any device.
Kept the WAN connections bandwidth lower to save on WAN costs.
Zero Clients were significantly cheaper then desktops and are still in use today preventing unneeded hardware refreshes.
The design was pandemic proof, something I had considered in the DR scenarios
Server and SAN hardware refreshes
Through hardware refreshes, I was able to maintain an environment that was able to stay at 99% uptime.
Server and connectivity stability and performance increases with flash.
Whole disk at rest encryption.
This is not an exhaustive list of projects I have completed over the years.
